Karen, a free-style, abstract-loving painter has been exploring numerous new techniques. Each week she uses new basic tools/elements, learning color balance and learning to balance negative and positive spacing. Karen also has been learning to stop, leave something alone, begin another piece, and go back to see if something needs change or if it needs to be left alone.

A new painting student, Mira created a seascape painting (acrylic paint) from her imagination.
A truly tranquil setting, she mentioned the island and trees reminded her of where she comes from. She generated good energy and creativity, with her hill of trees and a small house off to the side, and beautiful ocean and sky . GREAT JOB for a first time painting!! Hope to see more from Mira soon! |
Karen, who has been painting with me for several weeks now, has been learning and discovering new techniques, and finding new doors to creative freedoms. She is quite expressive in a free-style form. Each week, she applies new learned techniques, and uncovers what is pictured in her mind. Her creative outlet has opened up.
I introduced her to using black paper, painting with white no black, reversing her imagery. Her mind-picture was to roughly create mountains, with light brush strokes. Together her pieces look dynomite! |
Adult Paint & Collage Class /Hewlett, NY
November 7 Paint & Collage Class (Hewlett)
John, a new painting student (10/27/11) learned to create a painting 'from his imagination' , not from copying anything. Working with him, he learned color mixes, composition, brush and painting techniques, and also learned to paint what he knows and feels coming from his mind. What a beautiful job he did! An amazing accomplishment!
October 22, 2011. Karen, a new painting student, creatively expresses with use of acrylic paints, learning brush techniques, and other utensil techniques.

This painting lesson/project started August 18, 2011. 4 students were given a piece of a picture of a musician.
Each had to paint the quarter they were assigned, withOUT looking at what the other painters were working on.
The dimensions of their canvas did NOT match their proportions of the pictures they had. The picture only had a woman playing an instrument. They were assigned to place her on the canvas, so the painting could stand on its own, as well as with the others, and in the end the painting would complete a whole story, of a soulful musician playing. The picture they were given intentionally had a black background. They were told to paint anything they could imaginatively place in the background. Some of the students had details of the musicians face, hands, arm and instrument, yet having much background, others had mostly background space. See the results!
There are many lessons, tasks, and visual training which takes place with this assignment.
See the images as they progressed! The FINALS are NOT yet completed, but will be posted soon!

7.28.11. Tonite's class was by far one of the BEST and MOST EXPRESSIVE! We did NOT start off with a theme, but I did say to all...FEEL WHAT IS INSIDE OF YOU...the things you are feeling are what is going to come out on the canvas...So...everyone was feeling the same thing....letting go of the PAST...and EXPRESSING 'FREEDOM'...
